Comparing IB tutoring prices in Austria starts with a simple question: what exactly does the quoted fee cover? A 45-minute session, a 60-minute lesson and an ongoing package are different purchases. Compare the duration, total commitment and agreed support before deciding what fits your budget.

This guide does not claim a verified Austrian market average. Prices vary between providers and subjects, and a fee alone cannot establish teaching quality or predict a student’s grade.

Compare session lengths on the same basis

For comparison, calculate the equivalent 60-minute rate: quoted price × 60 ÷ session length in minutes. For example, an illustrative €30 fee for 45 minutes equals €40 per 60 minutes. This is arithmetic, not a quote from a tutor or a claim about current market prices.

Also compare individual and group teaching separately. A group may have a lower fee per student, but ask about group size, subject level and opportunities to ask questions. Neither format is automatically better for every learner.

Check what is included

• Subject and syllabus: Is the tutor familiar with the current course and your SL or HL requirements?
• Lesson duration: How many teaching minutes are included, and is preparation part of the fee?
• Between-lesson work: Are messages, resources or feedback included? Do not assume unlimited access.
• Booking terms: Check the total payable, currency, any applicable charges, cancellation conditions and package expiry.
• Online arrangements: Confirm the meeting platform, time zone and what happens if a connection fails.

Ask for clarification before purchasing. A clearly explained quote is more useful than an attractive headline rate with an uncertain commitment.

Agree the scope of IA, EE and exam support

IA guidance, Extended Essay support and exam revision involve different tasks. Ask what a lesson can realistically cover: discussing a research question, understanding a statistical method, interpreting data or practising a particular command term. There is no universal extra fee for these tasks across all providers.

Guidance should develop the student’s understanding and decision-making. Research, analysis and assessed writing must remain the student’s own. A tutor should not promise to rewrite assessed work, supply fabricated data or guarantee a grade.

Decide whether a lesson is useful

Agree a focused goal before the lesson. Afterwards, ask whether the student can explain the idea more clearly or attempt a related task independently. One lesson cannot resolve every difficulty, but it should leave the student with a clearer next step.

Relevant experience is useful to discuss, including recent teaching of the subject. Examiner experience does not imply IB endorsement or guarantee results. A higher price is not proof of better learning, and a lower price is not proof of poor support.
