Command terms with definitions in ESS IB

These command terms in ESS IB indicate the depth of treatment required for a given assessment statement. Objective 1 and 2 in IB Environmental systems and societies are lower-order skills. Objectives 3, 4 and 5 relate to higher- order skills. It is important that ESS IB students are familiar with the following definitions.
Objective 1

Define Give the precise meaning of a word, phrase, concept or physical quality.
Draw Represent by means of a labelled, accurate diagram or graph. When drawing in ESS IB always use a pencil and a ruler.
Label Add labels to a diagram.
List Give a sequence of brief answer.
Measure Obtain a value for a quantity.
State Give a specific name, value or other brief answer without explanation or calculation.
